Training Your Brain to Lose Weight - Keep Track!

The problem with being overweight is that it effects the entire body, increasing cholesterol, damaging the liver, and hurting other organs. Weight loss for many can be difficult because of time constraints, the love of unhealthy foods, or lack of eating healthy foods to lower cholesterol and fat levels. If you fall into any or all of these categories, you may find yourself trying several diets and following a pattern of weight loss followed by weight gain. The problem here is an overall lack of discipline. The truth is, the more weight you gain, the harder it seems to lose weight. With every added pound, you have to add another pound of weight loss to your goal. 

Fortunately, it seems that this is a problem of the mind rather reality. When you actually look at the science, the more weight you gain, the easier it is to lose the pounds. This may sound strange, but if you calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate - the rate at which you lose calories while resting) you see that the more you weigh, the more calories you burn daily (without exercise!).

BMR is calculated mostly by combining your weight, age, gender, and exercise level. If you're overweight, your BMR is probably going to be well above 2000 calories. If you don't exercise, your BMR will be lower, but this just means that you can easily increase the figure significantly by adding a weight loss regiment to your daily routine. Simply by adding 30 minutes of jogging a few days a week you can  take your BMR from 2500 to 3000! That means you can eat 2000 calories a day and lose a pound a week.

Now, how do you keep track of how many calories you take in? Use one of the many tools online that offer you calorie counting and tracking abilities. Not only can you track your calorie intake daily, you can also find a database of thousands of different foods so you don't have to waste time reading labels. This is a truly important part of the diet system because it trains you and motivates you to see that those numbers stay low. 

I shared a very neat trick to help you stay on track with a diet, but don't forget that you need to make an effort to eat a healthy diet and exercise. Eating foods to lower cholesterol or foods that are high in antioxidants are often linked to helping weight loss. Exercise is the other important factor. If you can begin light exercise you can increase your BMR by 10-15%! Remember, use a calories counting tool and stay on track with your new diet.
